Enjoy a long weekend getaway with the kids in Long Island. Just under three hours from New York City, there are endless activities for kids and the entire family in Greenport. Explore all that Long Island’s East End has to offer with beaches, ice cream, pizza, and more.

Day 1

3PM: Mitchell Park

Swing by the Jess Owen Carousel House in Mitchell Park. Open daily, the 100-year-old carousel is just $2 per ride.

4PM: Check in at the Harborfront Inn at Greenport

6PM: Crabby Jerry’s

Head to Crabby Jerry’s for clams, crab cakes, shrimp, and more. A menu just for kids includes popcorn shrimp, chicken tenders, and Nathan’s hotdogs. Dine at the picnic tables on the dock and enjoy views of the Peconic River.

10AM: Greenport Farmers Market

Hit the Greenport Farmers Market to find the best locally-grown food from the island’s farmers and fishermen. Kids will enjoy fresh vegetables, handcrafted jerky, and artisanal ice cream. Preserving Long Island’s railroading heritage, the Railroad Museum features historic trains and collectable cars.

4PM: East End Seaport Museum Lighthouse Cruise & Tours

Explore one of the few offshore lighthouses in the world that allow visitors. Excursions include a round-trip cruise and a lighthouse expert tour guide often featuring Bob Allen, the great-grandson of the last lighthouse keeper, William H Follett, who comes aboard to share family stories and photos.
